14 FAMILY DWELLINGS SECURED IN CHURCH LANE, NEW ROMNEY
Detailed permission for the erection of 14 dwellings has been secured by the practice after overcoming a number of difficult issues.
Amongst these issues were the on-site provision of a replacement badger sett, safeguarding protected trees, ecology and flood risk. This was in addition to access, levels of parking provision and detailed design issues, together with the impact on the living conditions of nearby residential dwellings. The practice addressed these concerns and finally viability issues were overcome.
The site is located near to the centre of New Romney, and the main target for the client was to achieve a sufficient area of saleable floor-space, in order to make the site viable, which would enable it to be delivered for family housing. This was made more difficult because of the introduction of Shepway’s CIL Charging Strategy during the period the application was under consideration.
Hume Planning worked constructively with the officers at Shepway Council, and addressed concerns of neighbouring properties and a School Trust (to meet the requirements of an old covenant).
