- This site was occupied by a building in need of investment within a largely residential area that was designated as an Area of High Townscape Value.
- The proposal involved the redevelopment of the existing building to create 10 luxury apartments and included an increase in the footprint and height and included offstreet parking provision to the rear.
- Hume Planning set out the planning strategy for the client and took key decisions on the scale and details of the proposal. Following a careful assessment of the site surroundings this included championing the merits of a contemporary design rather than a more traditional replica building.
- The submission followed pre-application meetings with officers, a Local Exhibition and follow up with local residents and the co-ordination of the planning team.
The scheme was supported by LPA officers and is a good example of how Hume Planning’s creative and design led planning approach can assist to introduce positive change to an area whilst delivering much needed quality housing. It also shows that Hume Planning’s style of approach, which offers greater engagement with officers and seeks to involve local residents in the process, can help to reduce sometimes unnecessary conflict.
